Troy captures moments in nature and sells the unedited prints, greeting cards, and handcrafted picture frames. Other handcrafted items include (but are not limited to): end and edge grain butcher blocks, cutting boards, charcuterie trays, votive candle holders, cribbage and chess boards, tables, cabinets, and shelves. Much of his work is made from locally harvested wood. Troy brings a wide variety of his custom woodworking pieces and nature photography to art fairs. Troy also takes custom orders of all kinds!
Troy first became interested in photography by watching his dad use his old camera at family gatherings. His dad gifted Troy that camera when he (Troy) moved to the mountains in Colorado. He taught himself how to this camera and used it for many years until film became mostly obsolete. Troy has lived all over the country from high mountains to low deserts and places in between. Photography capitalizes on time. Some things happen only once - the way a particular sunset looks and feels. Water droplets on pine needles. The swell of clouds before a mountain storm. What inspires Troy is the natural world. He photographs these moments in time so he can remember them, and so he can share them with others. Troy’s photographs are unedited, just as nature is. Troy sells photographs and picture frames in all sizes, as well as greeting cards with photographs he has taken on the front. To art fairs, he typically brings a wide selection of 8 x 10”, 11 x 14”, and 12 x 18” photographs and picture frames, as well as 4 × 5.5” greeting cards. He takes custom orders for a variety of sized photographs and picture frames.
Troy has always been drawn to wood; the way it looks, feels, smells, and behaves. To him, the craft of woodworking is becoming a lost art. The patience, planning, vision, adaptability, and openness to outcome all come into play for a woodworker, and he very much values these qualities. Troy appreciates the process from starting to completing his pieces from “land to table”; he mills some of the wood he uses from his property in Dodgeville. He makes picture frames in all sizes, using all types of wood - he likes to consider which image might look best with each particular hue and pattern, as well as with the arrangement of grains and knots on all 4 sides of the frame. Troy replicates a similar process with everything he creates in his woodshop. He takes custom orders for a wide variety of woodworking pieces.
